If you've never journeyed into deep meditation or hypnosis before, it's natural to wonder what it will feel like — and easy to arrive with an idea of what that "should" be.

Even for seasoned meditators and those who've walked through hypnosis many times before, each session is its own living experience. What you feel and how your body perceives the energy moving through it is dependent upon your intentions, the energy you're connecting to, the nature of what you're exploring, and where your vibrational resonance sits in that moment.

It's common to feel, mid-session, as though you haven't gone "deep enough" or that nothing is happening — only to realize afterward that you were in a state where your subconscious mind offered deeper insights the entire time.

Here are some of the most commonly misunderstood sensations — the ones people mistake for "it's not working," when in truth they are the conscious mind quietly settling into an alpha or theta brainwave state:

  • Feeling nothing unusual — just relaxation

  • Physically relaxed or drowsy, yet mentally aware

  • Receiving guidance as your own thoughts, rather than an outside voice

  • A sense that you're "making it up"

  • Shifts in temperature — warm and flushed, or cool and clammy

  • Difficulty finding your words

  • A voice that sounds slightly different, or a change in cadence

  • Feeling weighted, as if under a heavy blanket — or weightless, like a feather

  • A sensation of spinning or turning

Here's the truth: these are brainwave states you already move through many times a day. Watching a good movie, a long drive on a familiar road, daydreaming, those hazy moments just before waking or just before sleep — you've been here before. Hypnosis simply invites you to enter that same space with intention.

In a BQH session, or any hypnosis work, the depth of your experience will largely reflect your initial intention, your willingness to surrender control, and your ability to relax.

Practicing stillness of mind and visualization beforehand can meaningfully support the journey. If overthinking tends to be a challenge for you, check out my blog post "Trouble Meditating? Can't Turn Off Your Brain? Let's Train Your Mind" for a quick 3-minute read on a simple technique for training your mind to slow down and enhancing your imagination skills.

Relaxation is your greatest ally — not only for a fruitful meditation or hypnosis session, but as a daily practice for your overall health and balance.

Above all, come as empty-handed as you can. Leave expectation at the door. There is no right or wrong way to experience a session, or to interpret what arises within it — each journey is entirely your own, and no two will look alike.
